Ubisoft confirms the Rayman Remake is still in "its early stages," and the franchise's creator is also involved.

Following yesterday's news of Ubisoft disbanding its Montpellier studio, the team responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, here is an update regarding the affected developers. Some of them, "around a dozen developers," have been reassigned to assist with the development of Rayman Remake. Right, this is a new project that Ubisoft hasn’t unveiled yet.
According to Insider Gaming's sources, codenamed "Project Steamboat," the remake's development has been led by a team mainly located at Ubisoft Milan. In the past two decades, Ubisoft Milan has been involved in the development of "more than two dozen Ubisoft games." Meanwhile, the creator of the Rayman franchise, Michel Ancel, is said to be working with the team as a consultant.
A Ubisoft spokesperson has confirmed the information, telling Kotaku that more details about the remake will be shared later as the project is still in "its early stages" at this moment. They also note that "Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe."
Ubisoft
The creator of the Rayman brand, who retired in 2020, has faced some negative news immediately following his departure from Ubisoft. An article published in Libération, a daily newspaper in France, stated that there is an investigation into the director's "toxic leadership," an accusation he denied.
Notably, despite this scandal, Ancel has been a good friend of Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot. This relationship has led to speculation about how Ancel became involved in the project — if the team willingly invited him to join or a decision the studio has to accept.
Regardless of its director's controversial leadership style, the 1995 side-scrolling platformer, being "Ubisoft's first big hit", performed well in sales, selling 900,000 copies globally by 1997. Sales remained strong even after the millennium.
