If it doesn't scare you, no evil thing will.
It's fair to say that in recent years, Disney, once universally beloved, has struggled with its public image, at times uniting even bitter rivals in their shared disdain for the company with their controversial statements, questionable business tactics, and, most notably, soulless live-action remakes seemingly created solely to generate profit. With that in mind, it's hardly surprising that the money-making multinational mass media magic machine is now considering Andrew Wilson, the head of arguably the most despised gaming corporation, Electronic Arts, as a potential replacement for The Walt Disney Company’s current CEO, Bob Iger.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter, Disney has enlisted the headhunting firm Heidrick & Struggles to search for external candidates for the CEO position, with a new leader expected to be announced as Bob Iger's successor in early 2026. Currently, there are three potential candidates under consideration, including Wilson, however, discussions are still in the early stages, so it's far from certain that the Electronic Arts CEO will be crowned as the king of the Magic Kingdom.
Interestingly, Disney and Electronic Arts have some history, as according to the report, Wilson was interviewed in 2018 for the role of president at ESPN, a cable sports channel owned by Disney, before the position ultimately went to James Pitaro, one of the other potential CEO candidates.
It's also worth remembering that in 2022, EA reportedly considered a sale or merger with companies like Disney, Apple, and Amazon, and a year later, in 2023, Disney itself was exploring the possibility of acquiring Electronic Arts as part of a strategic expansion into the gaming industry, aiming to build a stronger presence by acquiring a publisher with significant gaming expertise. If the Wall Street Journal's sources are correct and Wilson does become Disney's CEO, an EA acquisition could very well become a reality, adding the gaming giant to Disney's portfolio.
So, what do you think about Wilson becoming Disney's CEO? Will he be a good fit, considering the two companies' shared focus on profits at all costs? Could we see more AI-generated visuals in Disney movies, given Wilson's enthusiasm about the controversial technology? Tell us in the comments!
