Disney Will Introduce 4K Restoration for Its Classic Alice in Wonderland Film
The release is scheduled for May 5.
Celebrating the 75th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland (1951), Disney will introduce a restoration of the classic film on 4K Blu-ray. The release of the renewed version is scheduled for May 5. Before that, the restored version of the film will premiere at the TCM Film Festival on May 1.
The Walt Disney Film Restoration team completed a digital scan of the original nitrate Successive Exposure (SE) negatives and a thorough clean-up process targeting age-related wear. The work took nine months. The artists also ensured that the film kept the spirit of the original and collaborated with Walt Disney Animation Studios veteran Michael Giaimo.
"The original animation artists' work on Alice in Wonderland is stunning, and we're proud to present it with renewed clarity and vibrancy," said Kevin Schaeffer, Director of Restoration & Library Management. "This milestone restoration brings new depth and dimension to the film's imaginative world, offering a vibrant presentation for longtime fans and a new generation of audiences alike."
The Blu-ray and Digital release will also feature bonus behind-the-scenes and archive materials, such as behind-the-scenes reference footage with commentary from the original voice of Alice, Kathryn Beaumont, some of the deleted scenes, classic companion shorts such as Alice's Wonderland from the original Alice Comedies and Thru the Mirror with Mickey Mouse, and music videos including "Beware the Jabberwock" and "If You'll Believe in Me."
