You don't need special tools to scratch it.
You've probably already heard about how fragile the new iPhone 17 Pro's surface is, but if not, the rumors are true: if you buy it, be ready to keep it in perfectly soft conditions.
Zack Nelson, whom you might know for his JerryRigEverything YouTube channel, is one of the most popular tech reviewers who specialize in durability tests, and the new phone by Apple quickly lost its beauty in his hands.

Apple has changed the iPhone's design from a boring brick to a slightly less boring brick (alas, such is the reality of modern smartphones), visually "breaking" the back side in two.
In his video, he shows that the anodized aluminium layer on the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max is not very good at protecting the casing. A knife takes off the paint with no effort at all, but even coins and keys, very probable neighbors of the phone in your pocket, damage the coating in seconds, and while the flat part of the plateau can withstand some force, the edges have no chance.

"For some reason, Apple didn’t add a chamfer, fillet, or radius around the camera plateau, and I think it was intentional, so it looks cooler," Nelson said. "But that decision to look cool out of the box is going to plague everyone who owns this phone down the road."

Thankfully, the cameras of the device are protected better, and scratching didn't do much to them.
Bloomberg also noted scuffs on the casing after just a few hours of the phones being on display. Moreover, Apple's magnetic MagSafe charger can leave a visible circular mark on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro models, according to the outlet.
Unfortunately, the iPhone Air suffers from the same issue.

Naturally, the wise thing to do with any phone is to wear a case, which will protect your new iPhone, but the fact that it is so easy to damage raises some questions.
