The game publisher expected that it would take two months to reach this result.
A new enhanced, graphical version of 2006's cult construction and management simulation game Dwarf Fortress entered Steam on December 6 – and within just 24 hours, its sales surpassed 160,000 copies.
The fact that the game has reached this impressive milestone was revealed by Tanya X. Short, the head of the game's publisher Kitfox Games.
Short shared that before the release, she spoke with a statistician studying "historical Kitfox data" who predicted that Dwarf Fortress would sell 160,000 copies in about two months. The head of the company herself, meanwhile, was expecting about 200,000 copies sold within this period. As we see now, the game managed to achieve the 160,000 figure in a much shorter time.
The Dwarf Fortress release can rightfully be considered successful – in addition to impressive sales, the game was highly appreciated by players. Its rating on Steam is listed as "Overwhelmingly Positive" with 97% of positive reviews.
If you're not familiar with the game, in Dwarf Fortress players need to manage a group of dwarves and build an underground fortress in a procedurally generated world. The game has been in development by Tarn and Zach Adams since 2002.
