As 2023 came to an end, Hogwarts Legacy became the UK's top boxed game launch, surpassing the decade-long reign of EA's FIFA franchise.  For the first time since 2013, FIFA has been surpassed as the year's top-selling boxed game in the UK, with Rockstar Games' GTA 5 claiming the title that year. Notably, this marks the first time in 30 years that EA has released a football game without the FIFA branding due to parting ways with the organization.

Despite the decline in sales compared to more recent FIFA titles, EA Sports FC 24 continues to be a big title. It is anticipated to maintain its position as the overall number one once digital data becomes available later.

Hogwarts Legacy's boxed sales were primarily on PlayStation 5, making up a significant portion of the title's sales this year. The next largest platform for sales was PlayStation 4, followed by Nintendo Switch.

According to Gfk, in 2023, there were a total of 12.76 million games sold at retail in the UK, which is a 5% decrease compared to 2022. However, it is important to note that this does not indicate a market decline, as it is likely that more people opted for digital versions of games instead.
