Embracer Created a Games Archive to "Tribute the Games Culture"

The archive currently has 50,000 games, consoles, and accessories.

The Swedish holding Embracer Group which includes game developers and publishers such as Gearbox Software, 3D Realms, Saber Interactive, Eidos, and Crystal Dynamics announced it is creating a games archive where it will collect various physical video games, consoles, and accessories.

The company told that it intends to add as many games to its collection as possible to "embrace the history of games".

"For us, games are more than just games. Its culture! It is something created by great people with creative ideas," a blog post reads. "By building a large archive of physical games, we want to preserve and tribute the games culture for a long period of time."

Embracer Games Archive is maintained by a dedicated team. David Boström was appointed as the CEO of the archive and his team currently includes an archivist, an archive assistant, a technical engineer, and a supply manager.

At the moment, the archive has 50,000 games, consoles, and accessories. All the games and devices are stored in the Swedish city of Karlstad, where the Embracer headquarters is located.

In 2022, the company plans to build a database and start cataloging, and in the future, it intends to collaborate with initiatives, museums, and institutions to help game history researchers and journalists. Its long-time ambition also includes holding exhibitions in Karlstad as well as in other cities.
