Are Ticks really that problematic? Is it necessary to make all your meshes Nanite? Is the ChildActorComponent really that troublesome? Should you avoid using Cast?
For Christmas, Epic Games shared a recorded session from Unreal Fest Seattle 2024, where Senior Software Engineer Ari Arnbjörnsson reveals the truth behind the Unreal Engine "best practices" you've likely heard so much about.
Often, these "best practices" stem from real experience and are valid, but they're sometimes taken out of context or simply incorrect. In many cases, however, you'll need more context to fully understand them. This presentation aims to either confirm or debunk many of these myths, helping you develop with greater confidence in Unreal Engine 5.
Learn more about the use of Tick, Cast, and Nanite, discover whether you can make 2D games in Unreal Engine, find out if Blueprints are slower than C++, and much more. If you prefer reading over watching a video, there's also an article available that you can check out here.
