Epic Games Shares A Free DMX Sample Project

The Unreal Engine team shared a new sample project for professionals in live events, broadcasts, and more.

Epic Games shared a new free Unreal Engine sample project to help users learn how to previsualize complex live lighting and effects, controlled via the Digital Multiplex (DMX) protocol. Unreal Engine’s support for DMX allows professionals in live events, broadcast, and more to use real-time rendering for accurate lighting previsualization.

The new sample project was created by Montreal-based multimedia studio Moment Factory. Previously, they worked with a number of well-known clients including Madonna, Jay-Z, Billie Eilish, and Childish Gambino, plus high-profile companies like Disney, Microsoft, and Sony.

Support for connecting the engine to external controllers and devices that use the DMX protocol was originally introduced with the release of Unreal Engine 4.25. The company noted that the DMX sample project was inspired by Quixel’s real-time cinematic Rebirth, set up and rendered with Unreal Engine.
