Artist TBSkyen talks about the changes AI tools introduced to the industry.
By this time, you have probably tried one of the popular AI tools out there, be it ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, or Midjourney. While fun, many think they pose a threat to human specialists, especially artists as not only could their work be potentially done by AI but also these programs use real artists' projects when generating images.
In his video essay "The consequences of AI art", cartoonist TBSkyen takes a look at the problem and talks about what "AI art" really is as well as how creative machine-made images are.
At the end of the video, the artist concludes that technology is unstoppable, but only we can decide how it changes our world:
"If these tools have a positive use, then it has to be based on the consent and mutual benefit of the people whose work gets used to create them. It cannot be based on theft, and it cannot be based on the exploitation of the many for the benefit of the few."
