Ex-CDPR Devs Form a New Studio, Dark Passenger
The studio is working on its debut project – the game set in feudal Japan that will feature co-op, PVP, and PVE.
Former CD Projekt Red developers who worked on cinematics for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 have founded a new studio called Dark Passenger. The studio was co-founded by Jakub Ben who will serve as the company's CEO, Pawel Kuleta who joins as the COO, Magdalena Furman as the 3D character animator, and Marcin Michalski as the Gameplay Director.
Dark Passenger is currently working on its debut project which, according to the studio, is in its first production stage. The project does not yet have a name, but it is already known that it will be an online action game set in feudal Japan that will feature battles with ninjas and other warriors.
The game is built using Unreal Engine 5 and includes co-op, PVP, and PVE. It will introduce an intriguing locomotion system that, for example, will allow players to jump on arrows stuck in the wall, as well as use combat claws and long spears to quickly jump over high obstacles.
Players will have a number of weapons at their disposal including katanas, short tanto and wakizashi blades, kusarigama chains, shurikens, kunai throwing knives, and more. The game promises extensive customization and the ability to modify your weapons. Players will also be able to create their own Dojo, where they can invite their partners for training.
The game will also feature various social classes – from villagers to high-born townspeople and samurai –which players will come across along the game. Taking on the role of a shinobi and kunoichi warrior, players will face the usurper’s underlings and other assassins as they search for powerful artifacts.
No release window has been announced yet, but developers promise that the game will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. You can learn more about the studio and the game here.
