Recently, Mirza Beig shared some insights on "legendary" video game controllers, highlighting Portal and Amnesia for their innovative player controller systems and integrated mechanics. According to him, implementing such systems requires a solid grasp of transform spaces, raycasting, projection, and other "silly math-y things", essentially, the science of numbers, quantity, and space.
Inspired by these ideas, Mirza began experimenting with his own portal-focused project. In his latest demos, you can smoothly grab, carry, throw, and place objects through portals, and even surf through them in some pretty mind-bending ways. With the latest update, however, stepping through a portal now turns the player around:
