Exploring Barrel Wave Surf Simulation In Houdini

Vu Pham created an ocean barrel wave surf effect with this fun animation featuring Psyduck to get you in the summer mood.

Houdini FX Artist Vu Pham, whose outstanding water simulations we've shared before, has presented a new test of the ocean barrel wave surf effect made in three hours and rendered with Arnold CPU. According to the artist, the design and simulation included a full pipe wave anatomy from the surf and the crest to the waterfall (Psyduck not included).

The artist also noted that he uses an old PC with an Intel Xeon E5-2696 v2 processor and 128GB of RAM with SSD for water work. The technique he utilizes has been developed over time, with many trials and errors ever since the Houdini 18 release, and this upgraded method allows him to achieve results much faster, making it easy to modify, adjust, explore creatively, and apply different art directions.

Have a look at Vu Pham's most recent FX TD showreel, featuring destruction, water, explosion, particles, and other effects:

Visit the artist's LinkedIn page to see more of his amazing Houdini art and don't forget to join our 80 Level Talent platform and our Telegram channel, follow us on InstagramTwitter, and LinkedIn, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.

This pack can help you get that realism that 3D often lacks with various different water stains captured from real surfaces.
