FBC: Firebreak didn't reach targets in sales despite the recently released Breakpoint update, developer Remedy confirms.
In a recent stock exchange release, Remedy briefly outlines the game's path, noting that the title underperformed in consumer sales right after the launch. On September 29, the developer released the first major update to the game, titled Breakpoint, which "brought significant changes to the game's core experience," introducing systemic overhauls, new content, and other improvements.
Ultimately, the studio shared that due to the update, player and sales metrics improved, but despite the fixes and the new content, sales have not reached Remedy's internal targets.
"Remedy is recognizing a non-cash impairment of capitalized development costs and allocated purchased publishing and distribution rights related to FBC: Firebreak. While we balance future investments to the title, we continue developing and improving the game in line with our updated long-term sales forecast," shares Tero Virtala, Remedy Entertainments CEO.
The co-op shooter, set in the Control universe, was launched back in June, but unfortunately, it didn't receive a warm welcome, with a peak of less than 2000 concurrent players on Steam in 24 hours after the release. According to players' reviews, the game lacked variety and control, featuring five maps, six weapons, no text or voice chat, and no server browser.
