This year's installment's boxed launch beats the sales of last year's FIFA 22.
Electronic Arts' football simulator FIFA 23 debuted at the No.1 position on UK's retail charts, surpassing the launch sales of last year's FIFA 22, according to the recent GfK data (via GamesIndustry.biz).
Sales of this year's installment grew by 1.6% compared to sales of the previous entry in the series. While it may seem to be an insignificant increase, it is still good news for the publisher as it follows two subsequent years of strong decline at retail for the FIFA franchise.
The majority of FIFA 23 copies were sold for PlayStation, with 41% of them being PS5 copies, and 31% being PS4. Xbox One represented just 17% of total physical sales of the game, and Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch made up 6% each.
FIFA 23 release significantly influenced the entire UK retail market as its revenue grew by 420% week-on-week.
Splatoon 3 which topped the list in the previous three weeks dropped to the second position with a decrease in sales of 14% compared to the previous week. The third place in the chart was taken by Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga which saw a significant 252% rise in sales which helped it climb from the tenth position where it sat during the previous week.
As for the rest of the top 5, Nintendo's Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Nintendo Switch Sports took the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Other new releases during the week between September 25 and October 1 include Square Enix's Valkyrie Elysium which sat at No.12 place and NIS America's The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero which debuted at No.18.
