FIFA 23 Regains the First Place in the UK Retail Charts
The football video game saw a 20% drop in sales but still managed to outsell the previous leader of the charts, God of War Ragnarök.
New GfK data reveals that FIFA 23 regained the first spot in the UK boxed charts surpassing the previous leader, God of War Ragnarök.
Although the football video game saw a 20% drop in sales week-over-week, it still managed to outsell its closest competitor, God of War: Ragnarök, during the week between January 8 and January 14 as Santa Monica's action-adventure game experienced a steeper decline, with a 38% drop in sales.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 retained its No.3 position, although the game's sales decreased by 15% compared to the previous week, and Mario Kart 8: Deluxe remained in the fourth spot despite a 22% drop in sales. Rounding out the top five was Nintendo Switch Sports, which moved up to a higher position in spite of a 26% decrease in sales.
Overall, boxed game sales saw a 23% decline compared to the previous week. Among the new entries in the chart was One Piece Odyssey which made its debut at No.14.
GamesIndutry.biz reports that the "Clearance" sale from UK retailer GAME also must have affected last week's charts. For instance, Halo Wars 2, which was on sale and cost less than £3, re-entered the chart at No.28, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps came in at No.34 following a discount that allowed players to purchase it for £5.
