A free demo and pre-purchase are available now.
One year and two months after the original release, Square Enix finally announced that Final Fantasy XVI (FF16), the latest title in the beloved RPG franchise, will come to PC via Steam and Epic Games Store next month. A free demo is available on both storefronts.
The game was released in June last year as a PlayStation 5 exclusive and sold three million copies within the first week. Although it had a strong sales performance, rumors said the sales didn’t meet Square Enix’s high expectations, but the developer later denied this.
When it comes to launching the game on different platforms, Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy 16, had expressed his wish to have all the players on just one platform, which, in his opinion, would be “better for both the developers and the players."

Despite the game being praised for its storytelling, graphics, and gameplay, the demo on Steam didn’t seem to be well received. By the time this article was written, the demo received “mixed” feedback, with only half of the reviews being positive. If we take a look at those negative voices, it’s obvious where the issue lies: the promised optimization didn’t manage to make the PC portal performance in line with that of PlayStation 5. The 30 fps cap for cutscenes, blurriness, and lack of ultra-wide are among the biggest complaints.
If you’d like to get it anyway, the PC launch will come on September 17, and pre-purchase is open now. The standard version costs $49.99, and the complete version, which includes two story DLCs, costs $69.99.
