First-Month Revenue of Marvel Rivals is Estimated at Over $130 Million

Not bad for a free-to-play game.

A little over a month since its launch, NetEase's third-person hero shooter Marvel Rivals continues its triumphant march across players' PCs and consoles, consistently attracting hundreds of thousands of players every day and receiving near-universal praise from the gaming community. But as we all know, player numbers and laurel wreaths mean little for video games and their creators if they're not backed up by strong financial performance, and according to recent reports, Rivals seems to be thriving in that area as well.

NetEase

According to estimates shared by the Chinese outlet GameLook, based on Marvel Rivals' current performance and comparisons to other multiplayer shooters' disclosed revenue data and official financial reports, the game has earned approximately 400 million yuan ($54.5 million) on Steam, more than 200 million yuan ($27.3 million) on PlayStation, and around 20 million yuan ($2.7 million) on Xbox.

Factoring in Chinese marketplaces, GameLook estimates the game's global revenue in its first month to be around 1 billion yuan or higher, about $136 million, an impressively solid result considering the title is free to play. Moreover, the outlet believes that if the game maintains its momentum, Marvel Rivals has the potential to become the next live-service blockbuster, with annual earnings surpassing $1.3 billion.

And speaking of the game's momentum, as of now, it certainly doesn't appear to be losing steam, not only retaining its audience after the successful launch but also becoming more and more popular each day, slowly but steadily moving toward its all-time concurrent user peak of 481K on Steam. With Rivals' Season 1: Eternal Night Falls launching in just a few hours, it seems highly likely that the record will be broken during the coming weekend.
