Lenovo ThinkStation P620 is the only way to buy the Threadripper Pro 5000 WX yet.
Lenovo announced ThinkStation P620 – the next-generation workstation for high-end computing. P620 will initially be the only way to get Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000 WX Series CPUs.
The new ThinkStation is promoted as the only one with PCIe Gen 4 support and up to 128 PCIe lanes; having up to 1TB ECC RAM over 8 channels and up to 20TB of storage. The workstation will also offer 10Gb Ethernet as standard. It supports dual RTX 8000 or Nvidia RTX A6000 GPUs, as well as up to four RTX 4000 GPUs.
As for the Threadripper Pro 5000 WX Series CPUs, their new chips use AMD’s Zen 3 architecture, with CPU cores in clusters of eight with access to 32MB of L3 cache. It reduces core-to-core communication times and improves latency.
The new CPUs will provide up to 64 cores and up to 4.5GHz clock speed. Boost clock speeds rise by 200MHz or more, and base clock speeds by 100MHz, which benefits 3D modeling.
AMD claims the CPUs' chips outperform Intel Xeon CPUs with the same total core count. When it comes to 3D, AMD says the Threadripper Pro 5975WX outperforms the Xeon W-3365 by up to 32% in compiling Unreal Engine, up to 38% in V-Ray rendering, and up to 40% in Maya viewport performance.
