Flow Director Shared Behind-The-Scenes Look At Movie's Water Effects

You can get some of these as a Blender add-on.

Flow, selected to represent Latvia in the 2025 Oscars for Best International Feature Film, is undoubtedly one of the best animated films of the year. Remarkable for its experimental approach, Flow blends video game language with stylized visuals and realistic movements, all fully rendered in Blender, making it a significant point of interest within art communities.

Following a solid debut in the US at the end of November, Flow's director, Gints Zilbalodis, gave us a small behind-the-scenes look at the water effects developed for the film by Martins Upitis, a Technical Artist and Co-Founder of Physical Addons, a company creating various software tools. Some of these effects were integrated into Physical Open Waters, a one-click add-on for creating photorealistic seas and oceans:

Physical Open Waters offers 7 ready-to-use presets, real-time rendering with speed and efficiency, keyframe animation, and compatibility with both Eevee and Cycles, with even more features on the way. Plus, it's currently on sale, so you can get the Flow water at 30% off.

Purchase it by clicking the link, watch the Flow trailer below, and find out if it's screening at a cinema near you:
