Following the departure of Blizzard Entertainment's President, Mike Ybarra, Microsoft has named Johanna Faries as the new President of Blizzard.
Faries, the former Call of Duty General Manager, played a crucial role in shaping the direction of the popular franchise. She joined Activision Blizzard in late 2018, initially working in the esports leagues for both Call of Duty and Overwatch. Before joining Activision Blizzard, Faries spent around 12 years working for the National Football League.
Starting February 5, 2024, Faris will take on the role of President, making her the first to hold this role since Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a deal valued at $69 billion. Matt Cox, who has been a part of Activision for over 15 years, will replace Faries as the new General Manager of Call of Duty.
Last week, Microsoft announced significant layoffs, resulting in the loss of 1,900 jobs across various divisions, including those at Activision Blizzard. This restructuring also affected Ybarra and Allen Adham, one of Blizzard's Co-Founders, who both lost their positions.
