Connie Booth, a former PlayStation executive and one of the key figures behind PlayStation's first-party studio system, is joining EA as a part of its ongoing restructuring.
According to IGN's reports, in her new role at EA, Booth will serve as the Group General Manager of Action RPG and report directly to EA Entertainment head, Laura Miele.
Her responsibilities will include oversight of several studios, including EA Motive which is working on an Iron Man game, and Cliffhanger, a newly created studio that is working on a single-player black panther game, and rejuvenating BioWare (developer of Anthem which reportedly had sold over 5 million units), which is also known for their respective titles Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
Booth joined Sony in 1989 and has been crucial in the development of some of their most successful franchises. She worked closely with Naughty Dog and, as the Director of Product Development, is credited with helping to establish the studio system that has strengthened PlayStation's presence in the console market. She is also a distinguished member of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Science Hall of Fame.
Booth's sudden exit from Sony in 2023 after spending more than three decades there was a mystery, with neither party providing a clear reason for her departure.
On the other side, EA is currently going through a challenging period marked by ongoing layoffs, even the developers of successful games like Apex Legends were affected. The news of the big shot joining the team at this moment is especially significant.
“She especially cares about game developers. She has an impeccable reputation within the development community and will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our games.”
