Former Rockstar Dev Suggests GTA 6 Might Be Delayed

"They are not going to release the game until they're 100% happy with it."

Rockstar

Obbe Vermeij, a former Technical Director at Rockstar developer who worked on several GTA games, took to Twitter and supposed that GTA 6 might be released later than it's announced in the trailer.

Vermeij recalled that the decision to postpone the release of GTA 4 was made four months before the original launch. He explained in the comments that many things were not ready. For instance, the console version "was lagging," there were code bugs, and numerous missions required more time to complete their development. If the game were released on the original date, "it would have been a mess. Delaying is almost always the right option."

Obbe Vermeij supposed that it is still early to predict whether GTA 6 would be released in 2025 or later: "Rockstar is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish." He is confident that the new GTA title would be an immense success and would "sell for 10+ years." However, Vermeij pointed out that the developers would not release the game "until they're 100% happy with it." "No matter what it said in the trailer," he added and humorously noted that the PC version might appear only in 2027.

This is only speculation. The developer said he didn't have any inside info and didn't talk to anyone.

Before, Obbe Vermeij said that GTA 6 may not be too different from GTA 5. He also shared some behind-the-scenes moments of creating the early GTA titles, which he had worked on: why there was no litter on the streets of the GTA's San Andreas or how the game's mirrors were created. The developer is now working on his own map-shaping game, which is a "relaxing game about creating conditions for nature to thrive":
