GTA 5, just like its predecessors, shows the difficult lives of its various characters, but did you know that the behind-the-scenes of its actors are also not easy?
In a recent podcast on Kai Cenat's YouTube channel, Shawn Fonteno, the actor behind Franklin Clinton, shared that he was very close to quitting during the production. Just like Clinton, he had been involved in gang activity and faced "serious time" before Rockstar offered him the job.
"They fought with me. I quit. I said, ‘I don’t want to do this shit, take this shit off of me, I quit.’ They sat me down, and the director said, ‘Man, trust me.’ Cause they didn’t tell us it was Grand Theft Auto 5, they told us it was another game when we went there called Paradise because they’re secretive," he shared. "I didn’t know we were working on GTA 5 until a whole year later."
This opportunity changed Fonteno's life as he quit his previous life and started working in earnest.
To top the interview off, the actor called his cousin Young Maylay, who voiced CJ in San Andreas, and made him say the famous "Ah shit, here we go again" phrase.
