French President Clarifies His Stance on Video Games

"Video games are a culture, an entertainment, a spectacle."

Back in June, French President Emmanuel Macron blamed video games for riots in the country, but now he decided to clarify what he meant and explain what he thinks about their positive impact.

On X/Twitter, he posted a lengthy message saying that games are "a culture, an entertainment, a spectacle" and "an opportunity for France, for our youth and its future, for our jobs and our economy."

In June, Macron said video games were "intoxicating" the youth, but in reality, apparently, he has issues with violence, not games.

"I expressed my concerns at the end of June because video game codes had been used by offenders to trivialize violence on social networks. It is this violence that I condemn, not video games."

He continued by saying games are "a ground for artistic experimentation, a fascinating learning space, mixing all the arts. Playing means listening to music, immersing yourself in stories, feeling emotions, traveling through time. It is exploring visual universes that write a new chapter in the history of art."

Moreover, the game industry offers opportunities for employment and is something Macron wants to accelerate. He also praised esports and promised to "support the organization of major events in France, to act to support the sector and help it develop."

Each paragraph of Macron's fascinating message is filled with admiration for gaming and the people in the industry. He ends the post by saying, "You can count on me." And how can you not after such a speech?
