French XR Startup Lynx Raises $4M in a Series A Funding Round

French startup Lynx, best known for the Lynx R1 XR headset, has announced it received a $4 million investment in a Series A funding round.

The round was led by VR platform Somnium Space along with other participants which the company refers to as "early supporters of Lynx". It also involved other investors in the AR/VR sphere including former Meta and Google engineers. 

According to Crunchbase data, with the new investment, Lynx now has raised a total of $6.8 million which will allow the company to secure the supply chain and "fulfill the insane demand" for its Lynx R1 headset.

The Lynx R1 headset is built on the Qualcomm XR2 chipset (the same chipset which is powering Quest 2) and combines high-precision cameras and VR displays for an end-to-end AR experience.

Commenting on the funding round, founder and CEO of Lynx Stan Larroque said: "We have this opportunity right here to create the European Champion of Mixed Reality with our work at Lynx, supported by a vibrant community of users and developers desperate to see alternatives to Big Tech companies products and their closed ecosystems."

"The Lynx team led by Stan has created an extraordinary AR/VR device (Lynx-r) with openness in mind which will change and revolutionize the way we all think and interact with this market category,"  Artur Sychov said. "I am very happy to support this company and believe that together we will push the boundaries and potential of the VR/AR industry forward."

As a part of the deal, Artur Sychov will be joining Lynx's board of directors.
