FromSoftware Owner Kadokawa Is Ready for an Acquisition Deal with Sony

The anime company is ready for Sony's purchase of all of its assets.

FromSoftware

Anime publisher and FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa Corporation said that it is ready for a purchase deal with Sony if the latter would buy it entirely. Sony, in its turn, is cautious about buying anime and video game-related assets.

According to a recent Bloomberg report, the companies have been discussing the potential acquisition deal for years but haven't reached an agreement over the "degree of commitment." However, they are now at a formal stage of negotiation, which is "very encouraging," as Bloomberg describes it. It seems that Sony and Kadokawa are ready to conduct a deal.

Kadokawa Coproration is a renowned company in the media sphere, owning over 100,000 anime and sci-fi novels and comics and holding stakes in some game development companies, including FromSoftware, the creator of Enden Ring. Recently, Kadokawa confirmed that it has 26 new titles in development, including 20 console and six mobile games. Some of the titles are already revealed. For instance, Gotcha Gotcha Games, Kadokawa's subsidiary, develops Action Game Maker, scheduled for 2025.

Acquiring Kadokawa would make Sony a "much more formidable player in anime." Also, Sony could make cinematic or video game adaptations of the Kadokawa's fantasy universes, further expanding the audience.

Recently, Kadokawa CEO Takeshi Natsuno released a statement, saying that the company "has received an initial letter of intent [from Sony] to acquire the Company's shares, but no decision has been made at this time."
