According to the latest financial report, Kadokawa Corporation, the parent company of FromSoftware, the developer behind Elden Ring and Bloodborne games, has bought a new studio, called Acquire, which you might recognize for developing Octopath Traveler.
"To strengthen the ability to create IP in games as part of our game business strategy, we have made Acquire into a wholly owned subsidiary," stated the company.
While the specific details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, it's clear from the statement that Kadokawa aims to boost its game development capabilities and broaden its range of console titles through this acquisition. The company anticipates that Acquire will be able to "generate synergies" with its other game studios, particularly FromSoftware and Spike Chunsoft.
Acquire, established in 1994, has been involved in developing games within the Tenchu series, Way of the Samurai, and various other projects alongside Octopath Traveler. Currently, the studio is working on multiple games, including the action roguelike Ancient Weapon Holly and the real-time RPG Scars of Mars.
Speaking of FromSoftware, recently a fan of the Elden Ring game shared a 600-page sketchbook where they depicted the whole history of their playthrough, and it looks just mind-blowing. If you want to check it out, make sure to read this article.
