FromSoftware's President on Elden Ring Sequel & the IP's Future

“We are not denying the possibility of developing the Elden Ring IP in some form in the future.”

FromSoftware

Despite a comparatively new intellectual property that was just born in recent years, Elden Ring could arguably be the most robust and successful one, securing a whopping seven wins at The Game Awards in 2022, the year it was launched. Even its one and only DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, whose launch attracted over half a million fans to the game, was also nominated for the ceremony's most noteworthy category, Game of the Year.

Naturally, players would hope to see more from this IP and the universe grow even bigger. Recently, Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of the game's developer FromSoftware, shed some light on the future plan for Elden Ring.

At the PlayStation Partner Awards 2024 held yesterday in Japan (reported by IGN Japan), Miyazaki gave a straightforward answer about a sequel, saying, “We’re not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2.” (Translated by Automaton.)

It might sound a bit discouraging for some, yet this doesn’t mean the IP would exit the stage; as he added, “I want to convey that we are not denying the possibility of developing the ELDEN RING IP in some form in the future.” (Translated by DeepL.)

While not currently working on an Elden Ring game, the developer is creating a few titles right now. The president didn’t share much more details about them, but he teased that those titles cover “a wide variety of genres.”

In an interview in June this year, Hidetaka Miyazaki discussed the studio's future, revealing that he is interested in creating a traditional Japanese role-playing game someday.
