Zhihao Yao presented a new Blender-made artwork that will leave you in awe.
HCI Researcher and 3D Designer Zhihao Yao, whose 3D endeavors you all know and love, continues the series of stunning 3D models that resemble traditional Chinese ink paintings with yet another beautiful piece.
This time, the creator showcased a fully-rigged 3D bird model with calligraphy painting-style looks created in Blender using a collection of custom-made Geometry Nodes-powered 3D ink brushes, first unveiled back in September 2022. To rig the model, the creator utilized Artell's Auto-Rig Pro, an add-on for Blender that allows its users to easily rig characters and retarget animations, as well as provides fbx/gltf export.
Previously, the author showcased a similar-looking cat animation and presented a gorgeous ink-style body and shadow animation achieved with real-time compositing:
Besides the ink-style artworks, Zhihao is also known for mind-blowing setups that all involve Blender to some capacity. Earlier, the creator managed to break the fourth wall between the artist and the project by figuring out an unorthodox way to illuminate parts of the scene using an iPhone, showcased a setup that allows one to move objects in Blender by simply tilting a laptop, created a neat water splash generator, and more.
