The change will happen in September.
Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold has been around for a long time, but it is about to disappear from users' radars. But don't worry, you'll get a new service in return. Starting in September, the subscription will be replaced by Xbox Game Pass Core, offering online console multiplayer support, a catalog of over 25 games, as well as deals and discounts.
Xbox One and Series X|S owners will be automatically assigned Xbox Game Pass Core on September 14, and they will have to pay for the new subscription the same $9.99/month ($59.99/year) as for Xbox Live Gold.
Additionally, Games with Gold, which allowed users to get free games every month, will be discontinued on September 1. Xbox 360 titles redeemed via the program will be kept in your library, and Xbox One games will stay with you if you remain a Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate member.
At launch, you will get 25 games, 19 of which Microsoft confirmed, and others will be announced soon. New titles will be added 2-3 times a year.
Here is what Xbox Game Pass Core subscribers get:
- Among Us
- Descenders
- Dishonored 2
- Doom Eternal
- Fable Anniversary
- Fallout 4
- Fallout 76
- Forza Horizon 4
- Gears 5
- Grounded
- Halo 5: Guardians
- Halo Wars 2
- Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
- Human Fall Flat
- Inside
- Ori & The Will of the Wisps

Xbox Game Pass Core has been announced several weeks after Microsoft raised prices for Game Pass: the service for consoles now costs $10.99 instead of $9.99, and Game Pass Ultimate costs $16.99 instead of $14.99.
