Games Market May Decline in 2022

Ampere Analysis published the results of a new report that forecasts the games market's decline this year.

Ampere Analysis published a new report that predicts the world games and services market will decline in 2022. According to the forecast, the market will lessen by 1.2% ($188 billion), following a very strong market performance in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. Ampere claims several main reasons for this decline that include hardware supply chain issues, game delays, inflation, and the general instability in the world.

Much like other segments of the market, states the report, mobile gaming might also see a slight decline of 1.3%. Ampere comments that the decline might be caused by changes in mobile platform privacy settings, meaning the industry will need time to effectively rebuild tactics to overcome these changes.

The report, however, ends on a positive note and predicts that in 2023 the market will grow again, with fewer hardware shortages and delayed games finally launching.

"After two years of a huge expansion, the games market is poised to hand back a bit of that growth in 2022 as multiple factors combine to undermine performance. Even so, the year will end well ahead of pre-pandemic performance, and the outlook for the sector as a whole remains positive, with growth forecast to return in 2023," commented Piers Harding Rolls, Ampere's Research Director.
