Geoff Keighley Wants to Trademark "The Game Awards"

The organizers ask the audience to sign a form and write personal reflections.

The Game Awards

The organizers of The Game Awards, a show celebrating video games with awards and world premieres, recently asked fans to sign a form to support the creation of the trademark.

"We are currently in the midst of registering 'The Game Awards' as a mark with the US Patent & Trademark office. We are looking for letters of support to establish that consumers distinctively associate the term 'The Game Awards' with our annual awards show," reads the letter Geoff Keighley and his team sent the community, followed by a request to sign a form to support the establishment of the trademark.

Also, the company invites the audience to share "personal reflections" on how they came to know the brand, which would be included in the company's application form. Pirat_Nation obtained the exact letter:

This year, The Game Awards will feature more formats of game-related content, allowing DLC, remakes, and remasters to compete in all the categories, with the definition of "game" being expanded. Thus, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, a DLC for 2022 GOTY Elden Ring, was nominated for the Game of the Year. However, it sparked criticism as it is an expansion and not a standalone game, despite the new rules allowing for nominating the expansions.
