“I don't actually know if that's true now.”
CD Projekt
The most advanced CD Project Red game, The Witcher 4, is now in full production, but that’s probably all we know about it so far, as the developer has decided to have tight lips. In the unofficial channel, Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt in The Witcher series, shared a piece of useful information with the community a few months ago that Geralt returns in the next installment of the franchise, though he won’t be the “focus.”
However, you can totally wipe out this information from your mind now since even Cockle himself isn’t sure if it’s true or not at this moment. Recently, when interviewed by Geektown during the MCM Comic Con Birmingham, the voice actor talked about how he got “slapped” by the developer due to his statement:
“I did go online and I said something about this, and then I got slapped by CD Projekt because… I don't know how true it is. I went off a rumor – I thought I'd seen somebody from CD Projekt say that Geralt will be in Witcher 4 but he won't be the main character, and I don't actually know if that's true now, because they came back and they went, 'We haven't put anything out there, don't say anything!'” (Thanks, Games Radar+)
CD Projekt
It’s not that Cockle intended to fool everybody (why would he ever want to do so?), as his information might be “from a really, really old statement that somebody who no longer works for CD Projekt actually put out about three years ago.” So, the return of Geralt in The Witcher 4 is totally a rumor now. Cockle said, “Witcher 4 is a complete mystery to me.” Indeed, it is a mystery to everyone.
In the latest financial report from CD Projekt, Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said progress has been made on the key areas of The Witcher 4 during the pre-production phase, “including the storyline, main mechanics, and design, amongst other elements, and then tested how they work together on a playable segment.”
