Get A First Look At Houdini 22
New tools for 3D Gaussian Splats, plus updates to character animation, simulation, Copernicus, USD world building, and beyond.
Though there are still very few details available, SideFX is continuing its tradition of releasing a summer sneak peek for the next version of Houdini, this time with a nearly five-minute preview video. 3D Gaussian Splats appear to be receiving significant attention in Houdini 22, reflecting growing industry interest in the technology.
The preview showcases features for training, lighting, rigging, and animating splats, along with updates to COPs, simulation, character animation, grooming, a more streamlined USD workflow, improved quad remeshing, an updated UI design, and much more.
More details will be available during the online Keynote on June 22. A release date for Houdini 22 hasn't been announced yet, but in recent years, SideFX's preview videos have typically been revealed about a month before the launch.
If you're looking to improve your Houdini skills, you can take advantage of seven free courses from the online VFX school The VFX Campus. The courses cover everything from the basics to advanced procedural workflows, and include class project files and scene assets.
SideFX has also updated its site with a Houdini Learning Portal, serving as a hub for tutorials, talks, and other educational resources.
