The Provisional Capital Memorial Hall is a museum that commemorates the history of Busan, a temporary provisional capital of South Korea during the Korean War.
Initially, this mixed Western- and Japanese-style building was used as the Gyeongnam provincial governor's official residence, and during the time when Busan was the capital, it was used as the residence for president Syngman Rhee.
Later, in 1984, the presidential residence became the Provisional Capital Memorial Hall and held an exhibition of photos and other artifacts from the Korean War. As of now, it's a renovated museum and an essential part of Busan sightseeing.
The Provisional Capital Memorial Hall consists of two buildings, the residence itself, and the exhibition hall, and serves as a history education institution to "understand the tragedy of war through programs such as the historicity of the building itself, various relics to look at the temporary capital Busan and evacuation life experiences".
