Get Yourself Ready For The Open Alpha Test For This Turn-Based RPG Set In Feudal Steampunk Japan

You can already sign up for the Shadow of the Road playtest, which starts on March 25.

Publisher Owlcat Games has great news for fans of turn-based role-playing games. Starting today, players can register for the open alpha tests for Shadow of the Road, a story-driven RPG set in divided Japan in the 19th century developed by Poland-based studio Another Angle Games.

The brand-new trailer definitely showcases what awaits you in the game: "a story of honor and duty, mystical yokai and unprecedented technologies, and epic battles where every choice shapes history!"

If you missed our first article, Shadow of the Road is set in feudal Japan when the whole country is at a crucial moment when the army of Emperor Mutsuhito, equipped with modern technologies, confronts the traditional forces of Shōgun Tokugawa. You step in the shoes of a master strategist and create your own band of warriors. "Assemble your team from a diverse set of characters and test your skills against yōkai and steampunk contraptions."

During the past seven months since we last covered it, lots of game details have been shared by the developers to let us learn more about it. For example, if you fancy destructions and creating massive chaos while playing, that'll be covered, as every item on the battlefield can turn into a weapon of chaos if you use them skillfully. Most of the environment, whether it’s wooden barrels or stone boulders, has its own durability. This is based on its size and the material it’s made of. "A nimble strike along an object’s line, or a forceful passage by a large character, can shatter these constructs."

Besides, more footage and screenshots have been shared in this period, giving us opportunities to see its mechanics, combats, atmosphere, scenes, and more, through the visuals:

The alpha test will start on March 25, but you can sign up now by clicking the "request access" button on its Steam page. Also, don't forget to follow the game on social media to receive updates in the future.
