The game sold over 5.1 million copies within five days of its release, becoming the fastest-selling title in PlayStation Studios' history.
Santa Monica's AAA action-adventure epic God of War Ragnarök was released just two weeks ago but it has already shown impressive results – the game has had a really warm reception, essentially already becoming a hit, and it also leads The Game Awards 2022 nominations, appearing in 10 of them.
The game can also boast another significant milestone now – it sold over 5.1 million copies within just the first five days of its release. Sony has shared the news via the PlayStation Twitter account congratulating Santa Monica Studio on this achievement.
In addition to the announcement, Sony revealed that God of War Ragnarök became the biggest launch in the franchise. In comparison, 2018's God of War sold 3.1 million copies during its debut week (three days following its launch for PlayStation 4 on April 20, 2018).
Ragnarök also became the fastest-selling game among all first-party PlayStation studios releases. It's hard to compare the sales of the game to the past releases of Sony exclusives as the company has used various periods of time for different titles.
For instance, it reported that 2020's The Last of Us Part II sold over 4 million copies in its first three days, 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man sold 3.3 million during its debut week (three days), and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sold 2.7 million during its first week (five days) in 2016.
God of War Ragnarök was released on November 9 and is currently available for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
