Godot 4.6 Nears Its Feature Freeze
The fifth development snapshot of Godot 4.6 is now available.
As the days grow shorter and colder, we're getting closer to the long-awaited feature freeze for Godot Engine 4.6. Will the contributors manage to wrap things up in time for the holidays?
The fifth development snapshot is packed with numerous improvements, as the feature freeze is planned to start on December 3, with one final development snapshot scheduled before the beta phase begins. A total of 134 contributors submitted 323 fixes for this release.
Highlights include enabling Direct3D 12 by default on Windows, adding delta encoding support for PCK patching, and introducing a dedicated build app for Gradle-based Android builds. Godot now also supports OpenXR 1.1 and will automatically activate its features on compatible devices. Additionally, the 2D renderer has received major performance optimizations.
