It's been quite some time since the last maintenance releases for the 4.2 and 4.1 branches of Godot Engine. The first release of the year brings out 4.2.2 and 4.1.4 simultaneously, with the new Godot 4.2.2 being in particular significantly bigger than the usual patch releases.
The 4.1 branch is the previous stable branch, for which the Godot developers limit themselves to backporting only the safest or most critical fixes, to ensure that already published games can update smoothly without any surprises. Since most in-development projects are currently on the 4.2 branch, this release aims to preserve compatibility and quality-of-life improvements to make it easier to use the engine.

The most significant change is the temporary workaround to allow loading scenes with missing external resources (due to renaming or having moved them around, especially from outside Godot) instead of reporting the scene as "corrupted". There are multiple reasons for such errors, and while this isn't a perfect solution, it should already help significantly when this happens.
Another big issue affecting Godot users on Windows with advanced audio setups was random audio crackling or distortion. Not only this was annoying for the developers, it also affected published Godot 4 games, making it uncomfortable for players, but thankfully Godot 4.2.2 and 4.1.4 have fixed this problem.

Several animation issues have been fixed in 4.2.2, continuing Godot 4.2's major refactoring of AnimationPlayer and AnimationTree on top of a common AnimationMixer base class, to share the base implementation for many common features. An improved command line export pipeline has also been added as well as a number of other important changes related to CI/CD, GDScript, C#, and Android in Godot 4.1.4.
