Google Asks Supreme Court for Help in Monopoly Battle against Fortnite Creator

It needs the lower court's order to be blocked.

Fortnite developer Epic Games keeps winning in its antitrust battle against Google, but the latter isn't planning to stop fighting.

A couple of months ago, Epic once again emerged victorious, with the court ordering Google to force Google Play to admit third-party stores for three years, so the Epic Games Store for Android was to come to the Google Play Store.

According to The New York Times, Google asked the Supreme Court to block parts of a trial judge’s order, which will take effect on October 22, saying that this would likely "cause irreparable harm, including harm to millions of Android users and thousands of developers."

The emergency request was filed on Wednesday, with the company asking the Supreme Court to move quickly, claiming that the court order would harm its business by making it "substantially easier for developers to avoid compensating Google" for the store's services and raising security risks for Android users.

Epic Games' spokeswoman Natalie Munoz said that Google had continued "to rely on flawed security claims" and that the lower court decision "should go into effect as ordered so consumers and developers can benefit from competition, choices and lower prices."
