Google Integrates Generative AI Bard Into Its Apps
The new extensions will allow Bard to connect to other Google's products and make user experience even better.
On September 19, Google presented new Bard's features, aiming at making the user experience as comfortable as possible. Bard is an AI chatbot, which is powered by Google's Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA). This tool is similar to ChatGPT, the only difference is that it gets information from the web.
One of the main features is the seamless integration of extensions, allowing Bard to collect and showcase different information from a range of Google apps and services. This includes Gmail, Docs, Drive, Maps, YouTube, Google Flights, and hotel information.
"For example, if you’re planning a trip to the Grand Canyon (a project that takes up many tabs), you can now ask Bard to grab the dates that work for everyone from Gmail, look up real-time flight and hotel information, see Google Maps directions to the airport, and even watch YouTube videos of things to do there – all within one conversation," stated Google in its blog.

You can evaluate any information provided by Bard with a recently introduced "Google it" button, which allows you to double-check the responses received from Bard. There is a "G" icon, which the users can click and task Bard with reading and checking if there is content across the web that can prove it. When a statement is available for evaluation, users can simply click on the highlighted phrases to access additional information about supporting or contradictory evidence discovered through Search.
Another feature that Google introduced simplifies the process of sharing conversations with others. Users can now generate public links for Bard chats. It allows for the smooth continuation of discussions on different topics. It promotes collaborative conversations and makes it easier for individuals to share their ideas with each other.
Speaking of languages available, Google confirms that you can operate Bard in more than 40 languages. With this expansion, users worldwide can access a variety of features. These include the convenience of image uploads using Google Lens, the ability to search for images within responses, and the option to customize Bard's responses to suit individual preferences.
Last but not least, Google assures that they're "committed to protecting your personal information" and any information from Gmail, Docs, and Drive that Brad uses will not be available to other people.
"You’re always in control of your privacy settings when deciding how you want to use these extensions, and you can turn them off at any time," as written in their blog.
The final part regarding personal information seems particularly interesting, considering Google's controversial new policy unveiled back in July. For those unaware, the policy states that the company has the right to use virtually any information available on the Internet, including your personal data, to train its AI models (Bard, Cloud AI), with or without your consent.
