Google Play Now Shows Ads in Search Bar

In case you missed the best offers.

Ads are nothing new in the modern world, we get used to them or just block them. But Google believes just a little more extra "suggestions" would not be too bad. Android owners have noticed Google Play now has ads in its search bar. Previously, when you tapped it, you would see your last queries, but now, there are up to three "limited-time events" or "suggestions" on top.

As noted by 9to5Google, limited-time events are used to promote streaming apps. They now appear in the search history with the app name, icon, rating, and download count. "Sponsored suggestions" are just ads, nothing more. Thankfully, all these disappear when you start typing.

I'd say Xiaomi owners are the ones done dirtiest: this system is infamous for adding ads in absolutely every app it can, and now Google joined the chase.

Aside from this curious addition, Google also introduced the search results page showing highlights for some apps, including quotes from reviews.
