Amid the recent rumors about the potential closure of Piranha Bytes, the studio owned by Embracer and known for the Gothic, Risen, and ELEX series, took to Twitter and shared that they are indeed in a "difficult situation." The company also asked its fans to have some faith in Piranha Bytes and don't write them off.
"Dear fans, yes, it's true. We, Piranha Bytes, are in a difficult situation. There is a lot of news about us circulating right now and this is our answer: Don't write us off yet!" reads the statement from the developer.
Previously, GameStar, suggested that Piranha Bytes was close to shutting down. Embracer had reportedly planned to sell it and the rights to the ELEX trademark to cut costs, but was unable to find a buyer. As a result, in December 2023, the company started laying off Piranha Bytes employees.
As for now, the studio is trying to stay afloat.
"Now, we are focussing on this goal with all our strength and do whatever it takes to find a partner for this project. As soon as there is any news, we will share it with you. Thank you very much for your continuous support," shared the studio.
Embracer announced its restructuring program in June 2023, saying that it'll close lots of studios. Since then Embracer has kept swinging its ax shutting down more and more developers. Last year, the giant closed Free Radical Design, and Volition, while other companies either were placed for sale or had to disband their staff.
