PlayStation Productions in collaboration with Scott Free Productions are reportedly working on the movie adaptation of 2012's action-adventure video game Gravity Rush.
As reported by Deadline, the feature film will be directed by Anna Mastro best known for her work on Secret Society of Second-Born Royals and written by Emily Jerome who previously wrote the script for Panopticon.
Developed by Project Siren, the division of Sony’s now closed Japan Studio, the game was released for the PlayStation Vita in February 2012 and later, in 2015 its remastered version made its way to PlayStation 4. It was well-received by both players (with a Metacritic user score of 8.6 out of 10) and critics who praised the title for its sense of freedom and world-twisting mechanics.
Gravity Rush follows the story of Kat, a young woman with no memory who uses her ability to manipulate how gravity affects her to protect the people of Hekseville from gravity storms and the mysterious monsters called Nevi. Controlling Kat, players have to fight against these threats and uncover the mystery behind the girl's past along the way.
It is currently unclear who will produce the upcoming adaptation. Gravity Rush is the latest PlayStation game to be developed for the screen since Sony launched its PlayStation Productions label. Other movies that are currently in the works include Ghost of Tsushima, Gran Turismo, and Horizon. It was also reported that the Days Gone movie adaptation is in development at Sony PlayStation Production.
