GTA 6 Not Delayed to 2026, a Few Rockstar Employees Say

The game will stick to the 2025 fall release window for now.

Over the past weekend, there was a rumor that GTA 6's release window might be delayed from fall 2025 to 2026, which left eagerly waiting fans feeling restless.

Good news comes from Jason Schreier, a Bloomberg journalist who contacted his sources at Rockstar. As he puts it on X/Twitter, the six employees he had reached out to confirmed that “they have not heard of any delay.” Jason emphasized in the following comment that those employees were not “informed” of such a delay. Even though this doesn’t necessarily mean the delay won’t happen, at least it lowers the chance of a sudden, disheartening official announcement from the developer.

While players are thankful and relieved for the great news, Jason also mentioned that the game “could very well slip” because it is quite big and ambitious. However, it would be too early to "say anything definitive” right now as the scheduled release window is still two years away.

Rockstar Games

The developer Rockstar Games, who is striving to “create an experience that no one’s seen before,” is probably accelerating the development of the arguably most anticipated game of the decade. Undeniably, creating such an AAA title requires a significant amount of time and financial investment.

Speaking of the cost, it seems the developer was not that generous, according to Martyn Ware, a Musician and Composer. He recently got a proposition from Rockstar Games, which offered to purchase the rights to the band's 1983 single Temptation for use in Grand Theft Auto 6 for a mere $7,500.

Undoubtedly, the nature and long development period of major titles like GTA 6 often lead to delays in the release window. The spread and discussion of the GTA 6 delay rumor show that some players are worried about a potential delay or have doubts about whether it can be released on time. We shouldn't forget that Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two's CEO, was "highly confident" in keeping to the promised timeline. Until we hear more from the developers, let's hope for the best.
