Guide: 5 Ways to Set Up Outlines in Games

Check out an incredibly in-depth guide by Alex Ameye.

Alex Ameye, an engineering student and Unity enthusiast, has recently shared a great in-depth article on how you can add outlines in games. The guide studies five different ways and even includes code.

Rendering outlines is a technique that can be used in games to add a specific stylized look, help players find things and more. What are your favorite examples of using outlines?

The first technique described in the article is the fresnel effect which can be used to render an outline on the rim/edge of an object. The developer also discussed Vertex Extrusion, Blurred Buffer, and more.

You can find the full article with the code here. Don't forget to join our new Reddit pageour new Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we are sharing breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
