Halo Co-Creator on the TV Adaptation: This is "Not the Halo I Made"

Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto shared that the TV series differs from the original game series so much that it looks like a completely "different universe".

Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto recently took to Twitter to share his opinion on the TV series adaptation of the game that was released on Paramount+ on March 24.

"I’m not sure where the inspiration for the show comes from now. Not the Halo I made," the game developer replied in a conversation devoted to discussing the recently released TV series. Previously, Lehto already mentioned that he had "mixed emotions and opinions" about the piece. He also noted that he had not finished watching the series yet, but did not specify how many episodes he managed to see.

And now, Lehto admitted that many creative decisions seem so strange to him that it is difficult to correlate them with the original games. However, the game developer also clarified that he "didn't say [he] didn't like" the series. "It's just so different than the Halo I helped make – like it's a different universe," he said.

Lehto also admitted that he actually loved some parts of the series, especially, action scenes and VFX. "In particular, the plasma hit effects in ep1 are spot on," he added.

Marcus Lehto worked at Bungie for almost 15 years and has been involved in the production of a number of Halo games from Combat Evolved to Reach as a creative director and art director.

Despite the TV series' mixed reception, the Halo adaptation still delivered quite good results for Paramount+. According to Deadline, it "set a new record as the service's most-watched series premiere globally in its first 24 hours". Besides, the company is quite confident about the success of the show and has already renewed the series for a second season.
