HardCuts: New Voxel & SDF-Based Hard-Surface Modeling Tool
It aims to help artists quickly create complex designs with Booleans and parametric shapes.
HardCuts by Jayanam is a new 3D modeling app built around voxels and SDFs, aiming to make hard-surface modeling feel fast and intuitive. It's designed to complement tools like Blender and ZBrush, targeting 3D concept artists, hard-surface modelers, game artists, and designers focused on sci-fi, industrial, or mechanical assets.
According to the developer, what sets HardCuts apart is its voxel/SDF-based geometry engine. It also uses parametric primitives and shapes combined with Boolean operations and supports resolution-independent modeling, so you can scale the level of detail whenever you need. This lets users focus on designing and iterating quickly.
HardCuts
You can create primitives like cubes, spheres, and cylinders, and apply real-time Boolean operations, add, subtract, slice, and intersect, while getting clean, stable results even on complex shapes.
This makes HardCuts great for concept art and early design stages without worrying about topology during the blockout. It also offers specialized tools for mechanical and industrial shapes, designed for crisp edges and optimized for high-poly workflows, and you can easily create repeating structures and patterns. The app allows you to import meshes for further processing and export your results for use in other software, particularly Blender.
Among its hard-surface tools, HardCuts includes Region Extrude, which lets you quickly extract and extend geometry from existing surfaces to add hard-surface details in seconds, Projection Volume, which creates 3D objects from simple front and side sketches for fast concept modeling, and the Lathe Tool, which creates clean radial shapes by revolving a profile, ideal for mechanical parts and cylindrical forms.
Currently, the tool is in Alpha and has a Community section where users can report bugs, suggest features, and share feedback. The latest version also offers a free build, letting users try all major features without a license.
In the future, Jayanam plans to improve deformation tools, add more parametric generators, better surface quality and detail control, performance optimizations, expanded import/export support, and UI/UX refinements.
