Harry Potter Mobile Games Have Generated Over $1 Billion in Global Spending

The top-grossing game in the franchise is Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery which has accumulated over $401 million since its release in 2018.

Mobile games based on Harry Potter IP have generated over 1$ billion in global consumer spending across the App Store and Google Play, Sensor Tower reveals.

The current leader in terms of revenue is Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery from developer Jam City. The game has earned more than $401 million since its release in 2018. It is followed by NetEase's Harry Potter: Magic Awakened which was released last year. The game's revenue reached about $358 million, with 90.6% of the earnings coming from China.

Zynga's Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells took the third position with over $218 million, while geolocation AR title Harry Potter: Wizards Unite from Niantic, which sat at the No. 4 place, earned much less – $39.6 million.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened ranked 31st by revenue among all IP-based mobile titles in 2022. From January 1 to September 30, the game earned $85.4 million. However, the game is in first place among the games based on a book IP

The US is a key market for the Harry Potter franchise. The country accounts for 36.6% of all revenue generating $374.8 million. It is followed by China with 31.6% ($324.3 million). It's worth noting that this figure only includes purchases on App Store, excluding third-party stores. Germany took third place making up 5% of the total revenue or $51.6 million.

App Store accounts for 66.6% of games' global revenues – Harry Potter games on the platform generated $683 million, while Google Play accounts for $342.5 million, or 33.4%. Outside of China, the revenue split is more even – App Store accounts for 51% and Google Play – for 49%.

In total, mobile games based on the Harry Potter franchise have been downloaded 156 million times. The majority of downloads come from the USA (31.8 million), China takes second place, and Brazil is in third place.
